Chargers or Service Plates
Reusable and made from a heavy duty plastic that looks like Lacquer or disposable Paper Board....Originally these were called Service Plates and they were used to hold the dinner plate's position. They provided a place to serve the first, second and maybe even a third course on top of. They were always removed along with the course before the dinner plate was served.
Some where along the way, they began to be used as a placemat and not removed during dinner at all. I don't use mine that way but...by now, you know me well enough to know I am a stickler for what is traditional and "proper". However, use them anyway that suits you. The Charger Police will never know!
Oh and you can also use these as serving trays too.
